But then we must agree that the game is majorly flawed if that is what it must take to do well in early areas. I should have started out as a mage so at least I can use my knowledge of the game and certain mage skills to better control the enemies. I've just forgotten how hard it is when you start a new game and try for the love of god do battles that you cannot hopoe to win for no reason at all. So, I've decided to skip the hermit not because I find the game too hard, but I find it simply unbalanced until I get a good team build - which cannot present itself until I've played damn well near half the game. I've played games on the hardest difficulty and - unless I knew to go elsewhere to fight this guy - I cannot see why anyone could call this game easy. I have done this battle before in a different order and found it easy. For the level my characters are at you'd think the hermit can't use cone of cold since its too overpowered for the amount of health they have. Then out of nowhere they get one-hitted by the hermit. Added to the fact they are always paralyzed or knocked down I can hardly heal. When you initiate that battle the game forces your characters into a crippling formation, of which makes them suscepitble to any AoE attacks. Arguably the best build for the first zone after lothering. People say he's easy with certain skills and moves - none of which I have with the build I have which is sten (dps), leli, morrigan (with 1 healing spell) and my main character who is a tank. I've scratched my head for hours on this one and still cannot find any luck in beating the hermit. His cone of cold for one takes all my characters out and a few fireballs later and they all die. But I must say when you are that low of a level I cannot possibly have the skillsets and characters to deal with complex dynamic situations such as that hermit presents. I've played this game a few times on easy and a few years later I'm now trying it again but on normal - knowing everything that's in front of me. My team is at the lowest level they can be since it's the first destination I picked. I'm in the West Bracilian forest trying to fight the hermit. So you'd think if you knew every aspect of the game you'd find it easy to take full advantage of each class, right? Depending on your team, one would think, changes the tactical style you go into combat with. Here's the thing I don't understand about it: a game should be fair and balanced for any team build. I'm a vet when it comes to strategy based RPG's and I must say after going back to play this game again I find Normal mode and up far too hard for my liking.
